I
accidentally met my childhood friend, Brad, in a downtown market. He looked
weak and fragile, but I stopped myself to refer the same. Instead, I invited
Brad for coffee near the lake view. He accepted it with hesitation. I smelled
some problem but deviated the topic by reminding him about the good old days of
school.
I
ordered a cappuccino and observed that he denied for anything. He profusely
ignored my intrigued, and then I smartly initiated about the Halloween parties
we had attended together during school days to make the environment easy for
both of us. There was a loss of eye contact from his side as if he is not
willing to sit there for long and looking for an excuse to leave. And I guessed
it correctly; he gave an explanation by telling that he forgot to meet someone
somewhere due to prior commitments.
Later
I promised myself to figure out my assumptions; I had for him. Brad had blood
cancer and he is in its last stage. I was shocked and perplexed because he was
never into smoking or drinking or in any bad habits. Eventually, I decided with
my friend to throw a party by inviting all the schoolmates and collect fund as
much as possible for his cancer treatment. As Brad was facing financial loss
also after his father’s death, he could not afford to take care of his
medication properly.
Hence
we successfully managed about twenty out of forty schoolmates and asked them to
donate some fund and also to join the party we are arranging. Duration was
small, but everyone agreed as Brad’s health needed immediate attention. We
booked pearl balloons, beautiful lamp shades, glitters and many other beautiful
decorative items from party store online.
Hall
was decorated, and his whole family, friends and some cancer patients were
waiting for Brad. Brad was astonished after hearing the story of each cancer
patient’s struggle and embraced the moments appropriately. Striking decorative
elements from party store online enhanced the look of the hall beautifully.
Then we neatly placed the fund on his mother’s hand and announced the name of
the NGO, who got ready to take care of him along with the other patients
present there.
